How we can help
IDignity provides assistance in obtaining Florida ID cards and licenses, birth certificates, Social Security cards, replacement citizenship or immigration records and other documents, as needed, to obtain an ID/license. We follow the requirements set by the State of Florida to obtain a Florida ID or license. There is no charge for our services to those in need. If you have the financial means to receive identification assistance and do not wish to wait to attend a Client Services Event, then please review our Consulting option.
If you do not have legal status to reside within the United States, IDignity cannot assist you in obtaining legal status. However, we can refer you to other agencies that may be able to help you obtain legal status. If your legal status documents have been lost or stolen, we are happy to assist you in obtaining official replacement documents.
When/where can we help
IDignity accepts new clients and assists returning clients at our Client Services Events. IDignity Orlando hosts Client Services Events on the third Thursday of each month, and satellites within Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties typically host Client Services Events quarterly. See the following schedule to determine the next event and the one closest to your location.
If you have attended at least one IDignity Client Services Event, then we can also see you during our IDignity Client Care Days which are typically every Friday between noon and 3 p.m. EXCEPT Fridays following a monthly Client Services Event. Additionally, Client Care Day is NOT held on holidays observed by Tax Collector offices. IDignity Client Care Days are held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church located at 701 W. Concord St. IDignity only uses the space at Emmanuel United Methodist Church for Client Care Days; Emmanuel United Methodist Church staff cannot advise you on your IDignity case.
During IDignity Client Care Days, you can
- Discuss the progress of your case with IDignity attorneys
- Pick up documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, replacement immigration papers)
- If you have attended at least one IDignity Client Services Event, receive a payment voucher to take to the Tax Collector to obtain your ID/license at no charge to you
What happens at an IDignity Client Services Event?
The start time for an IDignity Client Services Event varies depending on the location. Please see the calendar above to identify the location and date that is best for you and consult the event flyer for details. Prior to the event start, clients typically line up in what is call the queue. Service is first-come, first-served. IDignity volunteers will greet you, and you will be given a numbered card that you must keep as you go through the event. You will consult with volunteers in our legal station, trained by IDignity attorneys to assess your case. The card documents what services you need and the order in which you must complete the process.
If you have all the proofs required to obtain a Florida ID (or license renewal), one can be obtained at no charge to you via the FLOW mobile (Florida Licensing On Wheels) at the event.
If you need a Florida birth certificate, it can typically be printed on-site via the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics. If you need a birth certificate from outside Florida, we can typically assist with those, provided it is a birth certificate accepted as a proof by the State of Florida to obtain an ID/license.
When representatives from the Social Security Administration cannot attend an IDignity Client Services Event, we transport clients to the Social Security Administration office to assist in you in the request of Social Security cards or verification information. There are many documents that cannot be obtained at an event, but IDignity initiates the process for obtaining these documents during events. Such documents include out-of-state birth certificates, marriage certificates, consular birth records for U.S. citizens born outside the United States, and replacements of Green Cards or U.S. Citizenship certificates. IDignity will receive these documents on your behalf and advise you as soon as the documents arrive.
How are documents received?
Typically, IDignity receives the various documents you need on your behalf. Often this is because our clients do not have a permanent mailing address, but sometimes this is necessary when our attorney has to serve as your legal representative in order to obtain a document. You will be notified by phone/email as soon as your documents arrive. Documents can be picked up at IDignity’s Client Care Day, typically every Friday between noon and 3 p.m. EXCEPT Fridays following a monthly Client Services Event. Additionally, Client Care Day is NOT held on holidays observed by Tax Collector offices. IDignity’s Client Care Day is held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church located at 701 W. Concord St. Please note that Emmanuel United Methodist Church cannot assist with IDignity questions.
How much does it cost?
IDignity does not charge for our services to those in need. If you have proof of enrollment in the Department of Children and Families Access Florida Benefits Program, such as a DCF Access card (commonly known as a food-stamp card) or DCF Access award letter/printout, please bring it with you, but you will not be denied service if you do not have a DCF card. If you are able, we appreciate any donation you can make.
